French for “ like boys” Rei Kawakubo originally opened Comme des Garcons in Japan in the 1970s as a styling side assignment. Arriving in Paris 1981, the label became renowned for it’s abundant use of black and distressed fabrics. Conflated silhouettes and provocative oversize fits marked it out as one of labels pushing a new, exciting aesthetic. Rei Kawakubo is loved for her ability to enthral and inspire today’s fashionistas with her avant-garde and unexpected collections that now include diffusion lines, collaborations and a range of fragrances. The perfumes have the same off beat and innovative quality to them as the clothes as they include ingredients including oxygen, flash of metal, sand dunes, flaming rock and wash drying in the wind.
