Alexander Wang was born and raised in San Francisco, California to Tawainese-American parents. He is creative director of his eponymous label which he launched in 2005, at the age of 21.
In December 2012 Wang was appointed creative director of Balenciaga, succeeding Nicolas Ghesquière and overseeing women's men's ready-to-wear and accessories. In 2014, Wang started a collaboration with H&M, creating a women's and menswear collection for the Swedish retailer. In 2018, he created a collection of athletic apparel with Adidas, which was launched in 2019. Wang’s sportswear inspired aesthetic remains true throughout his various lines and collections. In 2008, Wang won the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund, with a $200,000 prize. The following year he received the Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year, and the Swiss Textiles Award. HypeBeast added the designer to its list of the top 100 influencers in the fashion industry.
